About Information Overload

My name is Lindsay Robinson, and I am a Master's student at Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. This blog is part of my thesis project about digital media literacy and the role that social media platforms play in today's world of information saturation.

This blog is my public, working exploration of my research. Over the course of my work, I will be posting everything from blog posts about interesting situations I encounter to reviews of some literature about media literacy.

Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter have become notorious for the spread of misinformation and inaccuracy. We see these blunders every day, but how do we decipher what is true and what is not? How do the stories we see end up on our newsfeed?

My minor in Sociology has pushed me to ask an even bigger question: How do the ways we interact with this material impact our society as a whole?

My goal is to explore how social media information communities can be used as a tool to foster reliable and trustworthy information and sources, rather than a tool to disseminate misinformation.

I invite you to join the discussion and explore digital media literacy with me. Check out my "Media Literacy Resources" page for even more information about what media literacy is, and why you should care.

Thanks for reading,

Lindsay Robinson
